Job Brief:
Berkey Home Builders, Inc. is seeking an Administrative Assistant to manage the office, handle duties for upper management and support other team members. We are looking for an individual who is efficient and comfortable being a member of a team. The ability to multi-task, while maintaining complex schedules and managing administrative support, is essential in the position. The ideal candidate for this job is resourceful, a good problem solver and organized.

This is a full- time position based in Altoona, IA with an 8 am to 5 pm schedule. Possible discussion for the correct applicant for a 9 am to 3 pm schedule. This position reports directly to upper management.

Responsibilities and duties:
- Answer incoming calls
- Correspondence both phone and email (vendors & customers), file maintenance, report maintenance, meeting scheduling and minutes
- HR basics: new hire paper work, anniversary dates and reviews, maintenance of handbook
- Support multiple team members and realize importance of deadlines
- Maintain office supplies by checking inventory and order items
- Assume responsibility for maintenance of office equipment, including computers, copy machines


Qualifications and skills:
• Minimum of a 2 year degree or a technical degree
• High level computer and phone skills with an emphasis on customer service
• Proficiency in word and excel
• Strong organizational skills including time management
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong math skills, attention to detail demonstrated by accuracy
• Reliable, Professional, Positive attitude
• Ability to operate in a high paced office environment with deadlines
• Experience in the construction industry preferred

Category 1: Apprentice/Entry Level Wage Rate: $12 to $15 Per Hour

• Base/Case/Shoe/Hang Doors
• Framing Walls/Decks/Siding
• Understanding of tools and desire to properly operate
• Desire to learn & advance to next level


Required experience:


  • carpenter and/or framing: 1 year



Category 2: Lead Carpenter Wage Rate: $15 to $18 Per Hour

• Cabinet Install
• Lay-out of house/floors/walls/trusses
• Ability to read blueprints
• Communication skills not only with team members but also work with vendors and customers
• Problem solving
• Lead co-workers


Experience Required


Category 3: Senior Carpenter Wage Rate: $18 to $24 Per Hour

• Ability to visualize design from beginning; from concept to completion
• Ability to run project from beginning to end
• Communicate with owners, vendors, customers and lead a team
• Responsible for project, tools, employees
• Able to follow and execute time lines
• Desire to produce and communicate custom features to customers and co-workers
• Problem solving
• Understanding of building codes and industry standards
• This is a leadership position
